Glossary
Anagram (anag. or *) - Scrambling letters supplied in a cryptic clue to form part or whole of an entry.
&lit. ('and literally') - A cryptic clue that also functions as a straight clue when read in its entirety
Charade - An answer assembled from parts supplied in a cryptic clue, read sequentially
Container - An answer assembled from parts supplied in a cryptic clue, with one or more parts nested inside another
Enumeration - An indicator of the length and number of words in a cryptic clue, written as a number in parentheses
Light - Grid entry (mainly used in UK)
Surface - The connotation of a cryptic clue, often written for humorous or absurd effect
Unch - An unchecked square, one that is not crossed by another answer
